NORTH OSSETIAN STATE UNIVERSITY AFTER K.L. KHETAGUROV (NOSU), VLADIKAVKAZ, RUSSIA

NOSU is interested in the following activities:

- modernization of curricula in humanities, technical and natural sciences, using the ECTS, the three cycle system and the recognition of degrees, due to the high demand of the qualified specialists in the field;

- joint programs in Tourism, International Business, Economics, Information Sciences, etc

North Ossetian State University in Vladikavkaz is one of the largest public institutions in the south of Russia. Founded in 1920, the university is directed at education, cooperation, and innovation in different academic areas of the humanities, technical and natural sciences, arts and sports. At present the university consists of 22 Faculties offering the whole spectrum of study programs under the life learning education strategy - from pre-university training to postgraduate studies.

North Ossetian State University regularly participates in competition for projects funded by the European Union’s Tempus Tasis Program. In 2000, NOSU was awarded funding for two projects. The first project focused on building institutional capacity for reform and is titled, “Distribution of Reform of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania State Administration.” Pochjois-Savo Polytechnic (Finland), University of Perugia (Italy), Moscow State University, University of Sofia (Bulgaria), and the Ministry of Economics of North Ossetia-Alania are partners in the project. The purpose of the project was to assist the process of reform in state administration, establish a center for economic research at NOSU, and disseminate modern European experience in the field of state administration. The second project was titled, “Student Mobility through Using the ECTS System in the Field of Modern European Languages.” The project consortium included the University of Antwerp (Belgium), Irkutsk State University, the University of Madrid (Spain), and the University of Trieste (Italy). The project was aimed at the development of linguistic specialties.

NOSU has taken part in the INTAS-2000 program; one of the largest research programs sponsored by the European Union
