Tempus Information Day for Western Ukrainian universities |
Tempus Information Day for Western Ukrainian universities was held in Lviv, on January 27, 2010. This seminar was organized jointly by the National Tempus Office in Ukraine (NTO) and Lviv Polytechnic National University, with support of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science and Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine. A two days earlier, on January 25, Lviv Polytechnic National University hosted the Round table “Bologna process statements implementation in Ukraine: problems of the higher education 3rd cycle, opportunities and issues in frame of Tempus Program and Erasmus Mundus Program”, where about 40 delegates from 20 higher education and research institutions of Western Ukraine took part in the event. Among them there were famous Ukrainian scientists, Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine – Ihor Mrygod and Roman Kushnir. Ukraine HERE team experts – Taras Dobko, Senior Vice-Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, and Yuriy Rashkevych, Vice-Rector for International Relations Lviv Polytechnic National University, addressed participants with main approaches and achievements of higher education 3rd cycle implementation in frame of Bologna process in Europe and in Ukraine. The NTO Director Svitlana Shytikova and NTO Coordinator Olena Orzhel presented Tempus and Erasmus Mundus Program opportunities for Doctoral studies in Europe, and elaborated on the utilization of European experience in development of joint Doctor programs in Ukraine. The seminar “Tempus Information Day” opened with greetings by Yuriy Rashkevych. In his address he urged the participants to discuss and further explore the opportunities offered by the EU educational programs, like Tempus, Erasmus Mundus and Jean Monnet, for the modernization of higher education in Ukraine. As European educational programs mainly focus on modernization of higher education in line with Bologna process, a special session of the Tempus Information Day was dedicated to Bologna process, its development after Leuven and its major achievements in Ukraine. The session was conducted by Ukraine HERE team experts Taras Dobko and Yuriy Rashkevych. The results of the Tempus IV second call, priorities, innovations, selection criteria, recommendations on preparation of project proposals, as well as Erasmus Mundus and Jean Monnet Programs were presented by Svitlana Shytikova, NTO Director, and Olena Orzhel, NTO Coordinator. After presentations, they answered numerous questions of seminar participants. Later, the floor was given to Oksana Kraevska, Coordinator of Erasmus Mundus Program ECWLot7, Ivan Franko Lviv National University. She shared with seminar participants unique experience in drafting and implementing Erasmus Mundus Projects. About 70 delegates from 30 higher education institutions of Western Ukraine took part in the Tempus Information Day. The event was highlighted by University’s journal “Abituriant”, and a separate article was prepared for Pedagogical newspaper.
