EU-UKRAINE COOPERATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION: 20 YEARS TOGETHER IN TEMPUS PROGRAM |
Please download "Tempus-Ukraine @20" photos here International Conference "Tempus-Ukraine @20" dedicated to the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the EU Cooperation Programme for Higher Education – Tempus Program in Ukraine - was held on May 14, 2013 at the Metropolitan Hotel "Rus", Kyiv. The conference was organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, National Tempus Office in Ukraine and the European Union and highlighted the achievements of EU-Ukraine Higher Education cooperation within 20 years of the Tempus Programme. About 200 Higher Education actors from Ukraine, partner-countries and the European Union, as well as business, civil society and research institutions, mass-media discussed cooperation between higher education and society, university governance reforms and modernised university curricula at the conference. In addition, the conference served to share best practices in Higher Education. The MINISTER OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE said that the Ministry "always supported and will support the university community as part of the Tempus programme", it has been the beneficiary and active partner of Tempus programme for the past 20 years. The Ministry has taken part in 72 projects out of more than 300 Tempus projects in Ukraine. Mr.TABACHNYK mentioned that Tempus Programme promotes internationalization of universities, improves the quality of higher education and provides for bilateral partnerships between Ukrainian and European universities that do not die upon project completion and successfully operate. "That's why the Tempus is one of the priorities of the state policy in the field of higher education" – concluded THE MINISTER. The Head of the Delegation of the EU to Ukraine, Ambassador Jan TOMBIŃSKI warmly welcomed participants and noted that the effective exchange of experience between Ukrainian and the EU universities was made possible by the Tempus Programme, and the latter serves a powerful impetus to the comprehensive development of the higher education. According to the AMBASSADOR, Ukrainian system of education will be able to get even more benefits and new opportunities after the signing of the Association Agreement EU - Ukraine. Head of the Tempus Unit, Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, Mr.KLAUS HAUPT noted that Tempus Programme presents a prime example of successful cooperation between Ukraine and the EU member states. He elaborated on the dynamics of Tempus in Ukraine and perspectives for European educational programs till 2020. During the Conference the National Tempus Office in Ukraine presented conclusions of the Review of Tempus programme in Ukraine from 1993 till 2013. The Review will soon be available on NTO in Ukraine website. The Award Ceremony recognized Ukrainian and EU Universities – Tempus partners with the most successful results. The following universities were awarded for activism in Tempus, for effective management of large partnership, for effective coordination of Tempus projects, for contribution to Euro-integration, for contribution to integration of education and research: National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, Zhukovsky National Aerospace University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute", Taurida National V.I. Vernadsky University, Dnipropetrovsk Oles Gonchar National University, Sumy State University, National Transport University, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” and National Technical University "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. The special nomination recognised contribution to modernisation of higher education in Ukraine. Awards in this nomination were handed to members of the National Team of Higher Education Reform Experts: the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Evgen SULIMA, First Vice-President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences Volodymyr LUHOVYI, Vice-rector of the National Lviv Polytechnic University Yuriy RASHKEVYCH, Vice-rector of the Odessa National Maritime Academy Vadym ZAKHARCHENKO and ECTS coordinator of Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University Andriy STAVITSKYY.
