“Study in Europe” comes to Kiev from 17-19 November 2011

Europe offers more than four thousand higher education institutions, from top-level research establishments to small, teaching-focused colleges. A rich academic heritage is based around many landmarks in human knowledge, while at the same time Europe is a hotbed of research and innovation, home to first-class resources and top scientists working in fields ranging from medicine to space travel, and from nanotechnology to polar research.

To showcase these opportunities in European higher education, the European Commission participated with a special “Study in Europe” stand at the "Education Abroad Fair" which took place over three days in Kiev at National Centre of Business and Culture Cooperation “Ukrainian House” on 17-19 November 2011.

International Education Fairs “Education abroad” and “Education and Career” are the biggest and most widely known events in educational life in Ukraine. Held twice a year they are an information exchange forums for higher education in Ukraine and abroad, offering direct, comprehensive and precise information for school-leavers, students and parents.

More information about the fair can be find under the link : www.edu-abroad.com.ua

The "Study in Europe" stand is part of a wide-ranging campaign to increase the number of students from outside the EU who study at European universities.

Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, said: “Students who spend a period studying abroad develop skills that are extremely useful in today's more diverse societies and workplaces – such as a greater sense of initiative and self-esteem; better language and cross-cultural skills, adaptability and flexibility. These students are certainly better prepared for today's globalised world.

With increasing international competition for talented academics and students, university studies should be more open to the rest of the world. We want to see more international partnerships and student/staff mobility.

The "Study in Europe" website (http://ec.europa.eu/education/study-in-europe) is an important element of the project and is available in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese. The site, which offers information on study opportunities in 32 European countries, aims to make European Higher Education more easily accessible to students outside the EU.

In addition to the Ukrainian "Education Abroad Fair, the European Commission is funding "Study in Europe" stands at a number of other fairs around the world:
