NGO “ARMENIAN ASSOCIATION OF TELEMEDICINE (AATM)”, ARMENIA

1. Name of your university/institution/industry or company interested in participating in TEMPUS project: Armenian Association of Telemedicine (AATM) – Non-Governmental Organization

 2. Main field of activities of your institution: Armenian Association of Telemedicine (AATM) is a non-profit organization founded in December 2008 in Yerevan, Armenia. The mission of AATM is to promote development of Healthcare Information and Communication Technologies (Healthcare ICT), via cooperation with central and local governmental structures, assistance in Telemedicine and eHealth initiatives, cooperation between interested institutions locally, collaboration with major international organizations and companies, and development of educational activities. One of important goals of AATM is assistance in organization of educational initiatives related to Healthcare ICT, to develop workforce necessary for implementation of Health ICT programs.


3. Previous international experience:

AATM is national member representing Armenia within the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth (ISfTeH), and has formal partnership relations with the American Telemedicine Association (ATA), and variety of other international professional unions, academic institutions, medical centers, industry leaders and R&D groups. AATM representatives frequently take part in international educational and research activities, both in Armenia and abroad. In October 2011 AATM co-hosted a major international scientific, educational and networking event in Yerevan, Armenia – the First Armenian International Congress on Telemedicine and eHealth “ARMTELEMED: Road to the Future” (http://congress.armtelemed.org). An important part of the meeting was organization of a Seminar of International School of Telemedicine and eHealth. 4. Information about the intended TEMPUS project: Type of project (JP, SM) joint project

5. Project proposal/description: AATM in partnership with Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) State University (RAU), Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU), State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA), and French University in Armenia (UFAR) intends to collaborate with higher education institutions in EU and Eastern Partnership countries to develop curriculum of a master’s degree course on Healthcare Information and Communication Technologies (incorporating modules of Biomedical and Public Health Informatics, Telemedicine and eHealth, as well as Public Health Information Management, and some Business Administration skills) to be taught at Armenian universities. A full-term interdisciplinary master course, which would offer graduates or specialists of diverse backgrounds: health specialists (physicians, nurses, public health specialists), IT/computer science specialists (software engineers etc.), biomedical engineers, and other related specialties. Graduates will work in the field of Healthcare Information Management / Exchange.
