International Conference "Tempus-Ukraine @20" dedicated to the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the EU Cooperation Programme for Higher Education – Tempus Program in Ukraine - was held on May 14, 2013 at the Metropolitan Hotel "Rus", Kyiv. The conference was organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, National Tempus Office in Ukraine and the European Union and highlighted the achievements of EU-Ukraine Higher Education cooperation within 20 years of the Tempus Programme.

About 200 Higher Education actors from Ukraine, partner-countries and the European Union, as well as business, civil society and research institutions, mass-media discussed cooperation between higher education and society, university governance reforms and modernised university curricula at the conference. In addition, the conference served to share best practices in Higher Education.

The MINISTER OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE said that the Ministry "always supported and will support the university community as part of the Tempus programme", it has been the beneficiary and active partner of Tempus programme for the past 20 years. The Ministry has taken part in 72 projects out of more than 300 Tempus projects in Ukraine.

Mr.TABACHNYK mentioned that Tempus Programme promotes internationalization of universities, improves the quality of higher education and provides for bilateral partnerships between Ukrainian and European universities that do not die upon project completion and successfully operate. "That's why the Tempus is one of the priorities of the state policy in the field of higher education" – concluded THE MINISTER.

The Head of the Delegation of the EU to Ukraine, Ambassador Jan TOMBIŃSKI warmly welcomed participants and noted that the effective exchange of experience between Ukrainian and the EU universities was made possible by the Tempus Programme, and the latter serves a powerful impetus to the comprehensive development of the higher education.

According to the AMBASSADOR, Ukrainian system of education will be able to get even more benefits and new opportunities after the signing of the Association Agreement EU - Ukraine.

Head of the Tempus Unit, Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, Mr.KLAUS HAUPT noted that Tempus Programme presents a prime example of successful cooperation between Ukraine and the EU member states. He elaborated on the dynamics of Tempus in Ukraine and perspectives for European educational programs till 2020.

В Варшаве 9-10 мая 2013 г. в рамках проекта ЕС INTERUV состоялась первая региональная конференция «Программы совместных дипломов: посредник в интернационализации университета». Конференция собрала более 100 участников из стран ЕС и стран-партнеров.

Ирина Сикорская, заведующая международным отделом Донецкого государственного университета управления, поделилась впечатлениями участия в конференции, она отметила, что участники конференции обсуждали вопросы реализации совместных программ, делились своим опытом и хорошими практиками.

INTERUV - это европейский проект - инициатива Эразмус Мундус офисов из 15 европейских стран (Австрия, Чешская Республика, Эстония, Финляндия, Франция, Греция, Венгрия, Италия, Латвия, Нидерланды, Норвегия, Польша, Испания, Словакия и Великобритания).

In May 2013, according to the official decision of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, 87 Master level scholarships and seven Doctoral level fellowships were awarded to Ukrainians to study in one of the 138 Erasmus Mundus master programmes and 42 joint doctoral programmes.

This year out of 147 Erasmus Mundus Master level scholarships assigned to students from six countries of ENPI East (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine), over 50% - 84 scholarships belong to students from Ukraine. In tough competition, seven among 35 Ukrainians, were selected for doctoral fellowship to start studies in 2013 academic year. In the selection round of 2013, the success rate of doctoral applications from Ukraine almost tripled compared to 2012 (20% vs 7%), and success rate for master level applications reached 17% vs 13% in 2012.

In 2013 applications were submitted by students originating from over 20 universities across Ukraine. As a result of the Erasmus Mundus competition, students from  Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, National Technical University "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk Oles Gonchar National University and other universities of Ukraine will go to Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, United Kingdom and other countries of the EU to study Mechanics, System Dynamics, Teaching Spanish, Industrial Management, European Forestry, Service Engineering, Ship Design, Journalism, Economic and Law, Russian, Central and East European Studies and other science.
